Thisproject was a collaboration between the instructor and all of the students in the section 001 of elementary Spanish I at Bridgewater State University during the fall semester 2011. We viewed the movie Como Agua Para Chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) and then students, working in pairs, chose a recipe to prepare. Each pair Likewater for chocolate is a heart wrenching romantic story laced with magic and food. The almost cruel love story of Tita and Pedro unfolds against a backdrop of slicing, peeling, sifting, pounding - basically 12 chapters - one each for a month with a recipe. With each chapter, and recipe the love develops and takes different twists and turns. Setin Mexico in 1910. Tita (Lumi Cavazos) and Rosaura (Yareli Arizmendi) live with their mother, Mamá Elena (Regina Torné). The mother has decided that Tita must stay single to take care of her when she becomes an old woman. Tita accepts her fate, although she's in love with Pedro (Marco Leonardi).
